A short week in the Premier Division as the May 24 long weekend and a floor that was unplayable lead to all teams playing one game on the week. Even with only five games their was our share of surprises and excitement. Here’s how the week shook down.
Wednesday May 24 @ Al Palladini CC
St. Michael’s BHC secured a come from behind victory over the Brampton Express in their first meeting of the season. Two goals scored by Danny Novis including the game winner lead his club to a 5-4 victory. Two late power play goals give St. Mike’s two crucial points. Anthony Flores after giving up two early goals keeps his team alive and secures the victory.
The Mississauga Hawks had the fortune of playing the Toronto Thunder during a stretch of injuries and suspensions that has decimated their lineup. The Hawks came away with an easy 6-1 victory. Steve Cardoso fires two goals and Matt Tremblett and Chris Chapman both add a pair of helpers as the Hawks gets back in the win column. The Hawks next opponent will be a test in itself as the Express are waiting next Wednesday night.
The Vaughan Red Wings continue to lead the Premier Division as they squeak out a 5-3 victory over the visiting Oshawa Bruins. Rob Shilton with three points and Mike Polesel with two goals is enough to secure the victory. Matt Benjamin make’s his first start in goal and picks up the victory. Vaughan improves its record to 6-1-0 on the season.
Wednesday May 24 @ Woodbridge Memorial Arena
The Toronto Polar Bears extended its season best five game win streak with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Oakville Rangers. Goals from newly acquired Shawn McCalla, Premier scoring leader Jeff Wilson and Raidel Cabezas were all the scoring the Bears would need on this night. Alex Liakopoulos gains his fifth straight victory.
A short handed goal off the stick of Niagara General forward Eric Tardif proved to be the game winner as the visiting team came away with a 3-2 victory over the Metro Orangemen. The Generals erased a 2-1 deficit as goals by Steve Walters and Tardif gaining the Generals two points and their third consecutive victory.

2. Paul Zarnett (Hawks) - shuts down Thunders high powered offence
3. Anthony Flores (St. Mike’s) - victory over Express after falling behind 3-0

3. Ricardo Pires (Orangemen) - one goal and one assist
The Premier Ball Hockey League would like to congratulate Frank Zampini and the entire Mississauga Hawks ball hockey club on claiming the Canada Cup Qualifying Tournament Championship with a 3-2 triple overtime victory over the Metro Orangemen. Kudos to Marcel Vieira and the young Orangemen club who played a fantastic tournament. The Vaughan Red Wings claimed the bronze medal. Congratulations to all participating teams on a well played weekend of ball hockey in Oshawa.
