Two of the front runners, the Express and the VRW, drop crucial points. The high flying Hawks get two points vs. St.Mike’s. The Jets and Bears make a move up the ladder as they both earn full marks for their victories on Monday night. The Thunder seem back on track as they win again this time a 4-1 victory over the Orangemen and the Steelers get the week off to rest and relax.
With a pair of goals from both Kal Kakish and Paul Duarte the Toronto Thunder beat the Metro Orangemen 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The game saw the return of Dave "Shaggy" Marchione to the Premier division as he tends goal in the absence of both Giffin and Medeiros away on vacation. The Thunder next face a VRW team that they are in a heated race for the top spot in the division. The Orangemen continue to struggle to find goals. The bright spot was the return of both Paul Lima and Gary Costa seeing their first action of the season and a couple of games should add much needed thrust to the front line. The Omen face the Steelers in a crucial two point game.
Knowing that two points were crucial the Toronto Polar Bears pulled up their socks and came away with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Vaughan Red Wings who had only given up a point in three games to date. A short benched Bears play a defensive system and spectacular goaltending from Gus Kalaitzis gave the Bears life. The Vaughan Red Wings had numerous chances to bury the game and a two man power play early could have cracked the fragile confidence of the Bears but Giorgio Occhipinti and Ben Moore had a point to prove as the two played the majority of the minutes in the victory. Jeff Wilson scores the shootout winner making up for missing twice in the shootout vs. the Steelers two weeks ago. The VRW continue to gain points and face a tough three game stretch when they face the Thunder, Orangemen and Hawks which will show if the Wings are true contenders.
Next up we had the Mississauga Hawks with their new gold uniforms. New uniforms, new faces and a new attitude have turned the fortunes of this club around. On this night a tight hard fought affair with St.Michael’s goes the way of the Hawks 3-1.Captain Charlie Giffin with a goal and an assist leads the offensive charge as the Hawks welcome back another star to their lineup in Dave Spadea. Ralph Pellicori makes numerous big saves in the last minutes to keep the Hawks lead in tact until a third is scored into an empty net. St. Mike’s continues to play well with their young lineup. They may be the team to watch down the stretch.
Usually a Vaughan Jets vs. Brampton Express game is a matchup with two full benches and intensity. On this night a short benched Jets beat an even shorter benched Express 2-1 as both cubs were missing many key parts. Rookie Kory Coelho scores both goals for the Jets and Matt Martello pulls the Express within one late, as Gary Doma slams the door shut in a furious final minutes. With the win the Jets stay ahead of the Bears and Steelers and stringing together a pair of victories will go along way. With 8 of 9 teams making the post season every point is crucial, as the pack will tighten week to week.

My Top Performer after twelve years of loyal service is "Smokey" my family's pet cat. Unfortunately after falling ill for the last six months Smokey was sent to "Cat Heaven" so he could stop suffering. Ya, I know he was just a cat, but for those of us that have had pets they become part of the family and losing them hurts just as much. I felt that after waiting by the door for twelve years for me to pull up the driveway no matter what time of day it was or laying beside my laptop as I entered the stats he deserved a few words in remembrance. I hope you have found peace and relief my friend, we will never forget you and one day we will reunite. The silence where your meow's used to fill the air or the pitter patter of you paws along the floor have left the house with an eerie silence. We will miss you, RIP.
