With the May two four long weekend taking precedence for the week the Premier Ball Hockey League enjoyed a light schedule with only one night of play. Although there were only three games played they were all a treat to watch. The Express, Thunder, Hawks, Bruins and Orangemen lead the pack and seem to be in a dog fight for the number one spot. The rest of the teams with a couple of wins in a row can get right in to the mix of things. Every game is crucial and the teams know this and many are in playoff mode as we approach the midway point of the season. Here’s a quick recap of this week’s action.
The Metro Orangemen and Brampton Express locked horns in a battle of contenders. The Orangemen eliminated the Express in the fall semi-final and the Express gained a measure of revenge my winning the Pre-Season Tournament over the Orangemen 3-2. This round went to the Express again as they come away with a 4-1 victory. Shawn Hannon gets a goal and an assist in the win.
The Barrie Wild made the trip to Downsview to face the Toronto Thunder. In a wild affair the Thunder and Wild traded goals and the lead numerous times. The Thunder would score late with less than two minutes left to edge out a 6-5 win. Vic Goncalves with the winner, his third of the game, earns himself the hat-trick and the Thunder the full two points.
If the Toronto Polar Bears are going to make another remarkable playoff run the time to right the ship is now. Facing the Vaughan Red Wings, the Bears knew it was a must win. Holding an early lead hopes were high of a first win. VRW would storm back and come away with a 7-3 victory. Sam Renda scores two goals and 12 of the 14 runners gain points on the night. Mike Iafrate getting the start in goal earns his first victory of the year.

Recording four points in a game versus the Thunder, Tyler Yerex of the Barrie Wild on a goal and three assists is the player of the week. He leads his club with seven points in five games. Congrats Tyler!
