In what has become the highlight of our Downsview Park Ball Hockey seasons we are proud to announce that All Star Day 2014 is on its way. Save the date, Saturday, January 25, 2014. It’s a day where we celebrate, enjoy and have a great time with family and friends. After three years of success we have decided to add a fourth game to the lineup and this year our Tier 3 division will now become part of the All Star Day festivities. They will join the Premier, Tier 2 and Masters Division which was added in year three to give us a quartet of contests.
It will be a day where our Champions face All Star teams selected from their respective divisions. The first of our Champions were crowned last Winter and the Barrie Flyers will be put to the ultimate test as they will face an All Star team comprised from the current Tier 2 Fall season selected by Tier 2 Commissioner Peter Lorusso. The Flyers have won a Tier 2 Downsview Park session, a Tier II National Championship and would like nothing more than to add an All Star Championship to their resume.
Our Premier Division has had their teams decided via a fantasy draft selection and the tradition will continue in 2014. In 2013 Marcel Vieira of the Orangemen and Rob Moniz of the Polar Bears comprised their teams via the draft and we were treated to a spectacular game as the game was decided by a Marco Goncalves goal in overtime. Stay tuned as the GM’s of the two sides will be released in the coming weeks and the draft will take place before Christmas.
In what was a spirited and intense battle reminiscent of a playoff game more than an All Star game the competition and energy of the Masters Division will be on full display once again in the second annual Masters All Star game. The Fall Masters Champion, still to be determined, will face a group comprised from the remaining teams. Will it be the Lions, Flyers, Jaguars or Penguins that will line up as a complete squad versus a team selected by Masters Convenor Abu Shaikh.
For the first time ever our Tier 3 division will be represented in an All Star Day celebration and the inaugural Champions that will take the floor are the Vaughan Flames. Does this team do anything else but win ball hockey games. After an undefeated season their biggest challenge may be defeating the group of All Stars selected by Tier 3 Convenor Pino Panza. No team could beat the Flames during their Championship run but can they beat them as a cohesive group of All Stars or will the Flames continue to dominate.
Tune in each week as the coaching staff, players and exciting news is released as we count the days to "The Fantastic Four 2014 All Star Day".
