Premier BHLIn what could possibly be the next to last report for the winter 2013/14 season we may crown a new Champion in less than a week. The North Youth Hitmen and Vaughan Red Wings hit the floor on Wednesday night with both teams hoping to draw first blood in their best of three Premier Championship. The Wings full of confidence after upsetting the division regular season Champions knew that they would need to repeat their performance from the semi final round in hopes of upending the Hitmen. The Hitmen on the other hand have sat and watched for two weeks so them being rusty was a definite possibility.

The game would begin as many expected with both teams feeling out their opponents and looking not to make an early mistake and putting their club behind the eight ball early. The first ten minutes went scoreless then the teams would trade goals in the span of a minute. Anthony Novia put the Hitmen ahead but Daniel Alonzi would pull the Wings even beating Dave Clarke in the Hitmen goal. Not to be out done the Hitmen retook the lead as young standout defenceman Andrew Lucia restored the one goal lead. The Wings would need just a few minutes into the second half to respond and Anthony Novielli draws the game level once again. With the clock dwindling the thought of overtime started to creep into the back of everyone’s mind. The Hitmen pushed the pace and were rewarded when Team Canada defencemen Victor Azevedo scored the Hitmen’s third goal of the game once again giving the Hitmen a one goal lead at 3-2. The Wings now had the clock as their biggest enemy and a powerplay opportunity with 2:16 left gave the Wings a man advantage. The smothering defence of the Hitmen protected the one goal lead and a bounce the Hitmen way allowed Anthony Novia to score his second goal of the game into an empty net. Final score 4-2 Hitmen.

The North York Hitmen will try to capture their first Premier Championship on Wednesday night as they try to sweep the best of three finals in two games. Game two will be played on Wednesday February 26 at 9:00pm inside the Hangar.
