Premier BHLIt may have been the schedule maker or luck of the draw but our opening game Halloween night had the newly spiffed up ORANGEmen facing the BLACK clad Vaughan Red Wings in a battle of the up and comers. The Hawks remain the talk of the ball hockey world as they continue to ride the Matt Tremblett wave to the lead of the Premier Division. The Express now winless in three lose a shootout to the charging Bears. The Thunder back on track continues their hot streak as they beat the Steelers to extend Thornhill’s slide.

With a new set of uniforms in tow the biggest news surrounding the Metro Orangemen may have been the signing of dispersal draft pick up Randy Kelly. With the addition of Kelly the Orangemen fill the void of a true goal scorer, a sniper that knows how to find the back of the net. The Orangemen may just have become contenders. The Vaughan Red Wings have hit the Premier wall as they realize every game is a battle. Kelly making his presence felt scores the lone marker as the Orangemen win a heated contest 1-0. VRW continue to find themselves in a tight mix of teams fighting to finish in the top half of the table.

The Mississauga Hawks reaping the benefits of the Matt Tremblett trade continue to soar to the top of the Premier standings. Matt and Charlie Giffin may comprise the most dangerous twosome in the league today. Each chip in with a goal and an assist as the Hawks shut down the Vaughan Jets 3-0. Ralph Pellicori, someone check this man’s birth certificate as he’s back in form playing like he’s 21 again, records the shutout over the Jets. The Eagles/Jets merger still having difficulties becoming one entity as a group can’t find the groove to get the engines rolling. With the top six teams creating a gap in the standings the bottom three will battle for two playoff seeds.

The Brampton Express find themselves behind a three game losing streak, the last two games failing in a shoot out. This time around it’s the Toronto Polar Bears who escape with a 2-1 shootout victory behind a Jeff Wilson winner, his second shootout winner of the season. Bears goaltender Gus Kalaitzis plays outstanding as he faces 29 shots and allows only one to elude him in the Bears goal. The Bears after a slow start have points in three of their last four and are starting to climb up the standings just three points away from becoming part of the log jam in the middle of the standings.

Ricky Daponte and his rocket like slap shot were too much for the Thornhill Steelers to handle. Blessed with speed, size ,strength and a goal scorers touch Daponte fires two goals as the Toronto Thunder come away with a 4-2 victory over the struggling Steelers. Thornhill starter Zarnett gets the night off as he prepares for the second half of the season and the push for a post season seed. The Thunder on cruise control keep the foot on the gas pedal and the wins keep following. Dan Giffin makes some key saves late and an empty netter seals the deal for the Thunder on this Saturday evening affair.
