Double GOLD in Windsor at CBHA Nationals!

Our teams take home three medals at the 2018 CBHA B/C/D National Championships!

It was a banner week in Windsor for our teams! Five teams in all represented in Windsor who were magnificent hosts! A total of  24 teams from across this great country competed in the annual event showcasing the B, C and D levels of play in Men's and B in Women's.

Ladies first! Our Downsview Penguins, fresh off back to back 'B' Provincial Championships, went unscathed until the final. Round Robin results included a 1-0 win over New Tecumseth Xtreme, 4-0 over Edmonton Bad News Bears and 3-2 over Calgary Knockouts. After a 3-0 round robin record the ladies faced the Edmonton Cherry Pickers and came away with a late goal to win 2-1. The final was a rematch of the 2017 Provincial finals against the Ottawa Sonics. This time they got us winning 4-1. Congratulations to Jenn Jung and the entire team on claiming the 'B' Silver medals!

In the Men's 'B' Nationals the Brampton Hollywood Express would claim our first GOLD of the day! The boys who wear black, white and GOLD played superb throughout the week. The tournament started with a 7-3 win over BC Code Blue. Game two was much tighter and we came away with a 4-3 win over Edmonton Redline. Up next was a rematch with the 2017 Provincial Champions Windsor Rosati. And this time we run away with a 5-0 win. That win would clinch first place in the round robin. A fourth game was played and the boys would go down to the Grimsby Grizzlies 4-1. Saturday night featured a rematch in the semi's with Code Blue. This game was much tighter as the Express would escape with a 3-2 win. They would face the Grizzlies in the final who were fresh off an upset of Windsor. The final would see all seven goals scored in the first frame. Express would open the scoring thirty seconds in and would come back from a 3-1 deficit and score with six seconds left in the first to go up 4-3. The score would stay the same until the final whistle! Congratulations to Jordan Crocker and the entire team on the Championship!

Toronto Autobots were a late entry into the 'D' Nationals but the boys were focused and prepared. The GM responsibilities go to Ricky Vashishth and Tony Diec. These guys did a remarkable job getting this team together in a short period of time. The tournament opened with a 5-4 win over our other entry the Mississauga Hard As Puck. They would lose a tough one against New Brunswick East Coast Pub Eagles 3-1. Game three was a must win and the boys went to work with a 4-0 win over Edmonton Farm Team. The boys had a tough test in the semi-finals as the hometown Walkerville Chiropractic were their opponents. Hard work and determination would send the Bots to the final with a 3-2 shootout win! The final would pit a rematch with the only team that defeated the Autobots in this tournament the New Brunswick Eagles. The boys would avenge the loss with a 3-1 win. A bittersweet victory for the boys! Congratulations and wear those GOLD medals proud!
