The Pigs defeated the Falcons in game one of the final 4-3 in OT. It was a physical affair as teams would not give an inch. The Pigs would open the scoring with twenty seconds left in the first half. They came out flying in the second and would take a 2-0 lead at the three minute mark. That seemed to spark the Falcons as they would scorch the Pigs for three goals in five minutes. But arguably the Pigs best player Iain Downs would tie the contest at three with two minutes remaining.
It was off to overtime. Both goalies, Jeff Thatcher for the Falcons and Paul Zarnett for the War Pigs, were great keeping their teams in it. It was a Peter Angiolella turnover that lead to the OT winner off the stick of Mike Neilson at 2:21 and the War Pigs head home for game 2 and try to close out the series.
Game 2 will be played on Wednesday, August 15, 8:30pm at the Haig Bowl. If game 3 is necessary it will be played back in Toronto at The Hangar on Thursday, August 16 at 8:30pm.
